AUDIT CB MILLERS -MWAKALOMBE

By ZANIS:Copperbelt Province Minister, Japhen Mwakalombe has implored the Zambia Revenue Authority to conduct a thorough audit on tax compliance among Copperbelt based millers.Mr. Mwakalombe who was in the company of Provincial Deputy Permanent Secretary, Manyando Liwalii  and Chifubu constituency member of Parliament, Frank Ng’ambi said ZRA should go flatout and inspect every miller in the province by comparing their production capacities and tax returns.He said he had reliable information alleging that most of the millers on the Copperbelt are with impunity refusing to issue tax invoices to their customers,thus exploiting consumers where pricing was concerned.Mr. Mwakalombe said if not properly scrutinised, millers in the province will continue making supernormal profits at the expense of government’s revenue, a situation he said has a negative effect on citizens.And Mr. Mwakalombe has warned bar owners in the province to comply with the Presidential directive on the closure of their bars for 14 days as one of the measures to combat COVID 19.The Minister warned when he led a combined team of State and Ndola City Council police that swung into action to check compliance levels among bars owners that harsh measures will be taken against those that will not comply irrespective of their status in society.Meanwhile, Mr. Ng’ambi has warned Kawama residents whose houses are being used to conceal mealie meal for smuggling that their days are numbered.He said he will not allow a few selfish individuals to disadvantage hundred thousands of people by creating artificial shortage and increase the price of the commodity due to smuggling.
