Arresting Of Opposition Politicians For Holding Public Discussions Denting The Ruling PF’s Image

By Lomphande Muzumi

A Political Scientist Euston Chiputa has charged that the continued arresting of opposition political party leaders whenever they hold public discussions is not only denting the image of the ruling patriotic front but an assault on democracy.

Dr Chiputa’s sentiments come in the wake of the arrest and detention of opposition National Democratic Congress-NDC- Leader Chishimba Kambwili over the weekend on the Copperbelt after being charged with conduct likely to cause breach of peace.

In an interview with phoenix news, Dr Chiputa has since advised the police against the continued unfair application of the public order act.

He says the misapplication of the public order act has the potential to set a bad precedence for the country’s young democracy.
