Another KCM miner dies underground

A KCM Business Partner employee in Chililabombwe has died in a Mine accident which occurred on Wednesday.Company Communications and Public Relations Shapi Shachinda has confirmed in a statement to Mwebantu and said the details of the victim have been withheld for security reasons.But Shachinda said the deceased’s next-of-kin have been informed.He said staff and management at KCM and Vedanta is devastated by the sad news and commits itself to assisting the family.“Our deepest condolences go out to the deceased’s family, friends and colleagues and to the entire KCM team,” he said.He said the Mine has since halted all work at the particular section of Konkola Underground Mine Shaft 4 while investigations are underway.“All work at the particular section of Konkola Underground Mine Shaft 4 has been halted while investigations – involving the local emergency services, Police, the Mine Safety Department, our representative trade unions and senior KCM Management and operations structures – are underway.” He said.
