AFRICAN SWINE FEVER HITS CHIPILI DISTRICT

The African Swine Fever, a livestock disease, has broken out in Chipili district, Luapula province.

District Livestock and Fisheries Coordinator, MATHEW ZULU has confirmed to ZANIS, saying the most affected area is the Munkonshi Veterinary Camp.

The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock has since banned the movement and trading of pigs and pork products in and out of Chipili district, with immediate effect.

Mr ZULU says the ban is aimed at containing the African Swine Fever.

The Ministry has also declared Mukonshi, Kamami, Lupososhi, Mwenda, and Mutipula Camps, as infected areas and quarantine zones.

He disclosed that the Ministry has also set up inspections and disinfection points on all major routes in and out of Chipili District.
