Address challenges in the agric sector-Chiefs

NAIS-Traditional leaders in Kawambwa district of Luapula Province have appealed to government to help address some challenges facing the agriculture sector in the district.

Senior Chief MUSHOTA of the Chishinga people says the Kawambwa tea plantation is in need of government intervention as it is currently incurring a lot of losses due to a number of factors such as poor road network and theft.

Speaking when Agriculture Minister REUBEN MTOLO paid a courtesy call at his place, Chief MUSHOTA also cited Kawambwa cassava Farm and bio-refinery Development under Sunbird as other projects that need to be revamped.

The Chief has also expressed worry over the sugar plantation which is facing low production levels due to various factors.

And Chief MUNKANTA has asked the government to expedite the process of paying farmers in his chiefdom who supplied their maize to the Food and Reserve Agency -FRA-

The Chief notes that many farmers who have not received their money are worried that they might not farm this year because of lack of inputs.

Meanwhile, Mr. MTOLO assured the chiefs that government will look into their plights and find possible ways of addressing the challenges faced by the district.
