Lusaka, Zambia24 (2-06-2023) – The first-ever institution that will provide both technical secondary education and vocational training to students has officially been launched in Lusaka’s Baritone area.

The school is not only founded but also funded by an American couple under the umbrella name of Breath of Heaven Technical Secondary School and Vocational Training College.

Lusaka Provincial Education Officer Allan Lingambe, who commissioned the grand opening of a Vocational Training Centre and Secondary school at Breath of Heaven Children’s ministry in Balastone, commended the initiator of the institution for its efforts to provide quality education to students.

Lingambe emphasized the importance of supporting teachers, lecturers, and staff who play a vital role in nurturing young minds. He also praised the institution for aiming to equip students with the necessary digital skills to thrive in the digital age.

Lingambe reiterated the need for collective commitment from the community, visionary leaders, and educators to create a brighter and better future for the youth.

Ted Lawler, the founder of Breath of Heaven Technical Secondary School and Vocational Training College, aims to provide education that focuses not only on academics but also on values of excellence, integrity, service, and Christian discipleship.

Lawler noted the challenges facing the world, including the promotion of godless, hedonistic beliefs by many Western nations and international organizations. He believes that the institution should equip children and students with knowledge of God’s love, mercy, and salvation to be strong in their faith and hold on to the Word of Life.

Lawler added that education is a tool to combat evil in the world and provide young people with the necessary skills to lead a purpose-driven life.

The institution teaches not only academic subjects such as math, science, and English but also trade skills such as sewing, carpentry, and welding.

Lawler believes that this approach will produce graduates equipped not only for further education but also for the job market, making them able to support themselves and their families.

Ultimately, Lawler’s vision is to build a better future for the community by producing God-fearing graduates who have the skills and knowledge needed to make a positive impact on the world.

He expressed his gratitude to the generous donors who have enabled the establishment of the institution and shared plans to build hostels and a boarding school to expand their reach and provide more opportunities for their students.

Breath of Heaven Technical Secondary School and Vocational Training College’s co-founder, Judy Lawler, stressed the importance of having leaders who are committed to the institution’s vision, with the necessary academic and professional qualifications.

She also highlighted the need for skilled leaders to guide the institution through complex processes and for the equitable contributions of all staff members.

The principal of Breath of Heaven Technical Secondary School and Vocational Training College, Rodrick Sakamba, has highlighted the significance of technical and vocational education in empowering young people to succeed in a rapidly-changing world.

Sakamba views the establishment of the school as a crucial step towards bridging the skills gap and providing students with an education that is rich in technical expertise and practical knowledge.

Sakamba has emphasized the importance of starting technical and vocational training at an early age, specifically in grade 7.

He stressed the need to address the challenges and difficulties faced by the country in one place, under one roof.

According to Sakamba, passionate and dedicated educators play a vital role in guiding and inspiring students to unlock their unique talents and potential.

Bishop Peter Ndlovu of BIGOCA commended Lawler and his wife for their passionate service to education in Africa and encouraged the people of Zambia to have a heart for saving those who are most vulnerable.

He shared inspiring stories of children turning their lives around thanks to the help they received from Lawler and his wife.
