Minster of Local Government Vincent Mwale says his ministry has sourced about eight million euros for from the German government through the KFW bank to rehabilitate and expand infrastructure at Chalimbana Local Government Institute.

Speaking at the 18th Graduation Ceremony of the Chalimbana Local government training institute, Mr Mwale says this will enable the training institute to improve and increase on the training programmes offered.

He says it is the ministry’s desire to transform Chalimbana local government institute from its current status to that of a centre of excellence in providing quality training in local governance not only in Zambia, but on the African continent as a whole.

Mr Mwale has however urged the institute through the principal to ensure that training programmes respond to local authorities’ operational training needs and demands.

Mr Mwale has encouraged the graduates to practice their newly acquired knowledge, skills and competences to resolve the challenges being faced by local authorities.

Speaking at the same event, Chalimbana Local government training institute Principal Frank Kunda says the ceremony is yet another confirmation of the institute’s relevance to the local government system through the provision of specialised local government training to both elected and appointed officials.

Mr Kunda says over the years, the portfolio of programmes offered by the institute has progressively grown in a considerable way to include post graduate courses and short intensive professional courses aimed at addressing specific human resource needs in the local authorities.
