“$70m debt Waiver Sign of Chinese Goodwill”

Vice President Inonge Wina says the waiver of 70 million United States dollars debt on the Levy Mwanawasa stadium is a sign of goodwill by the Chinese Government.Mrs. Wina says the gesture is a recognition by the Chinese Government of the good leadership existing in Zambia.She says the Chinese Government knows its investments are secure in Zambia and that it can collaborate with the Zambian government on issues relating to debt.Mrs. Wina has thanked the Chinese Government for the gesture and has called on Zambians to minimize scandalizing Chinese nationals in the country.The Vice President was speaking in parliament today when responding to a question by Member of Parliament for Ndola Central Emmanuel Mulenga during the Vice President’s question time.And Mrs. Wina said the Zambian Government is committed to ensuring construction of the Kazungula Bridge is completed as scheduled.She said Government acknowledges the economic benefits that will accrue from the bridge once construction is completed.Mrs. Wina told Parliament that Government met its financial obligations towards the bridge as funds were released to that effect.Meanwhile, Mrs. Wina told parliament that Government cannot declare the current hunger situation as a national disaster before it receives a comprehensive report from all parts of the country.She noted that not all households in the county have been hit by hunger.
