4 Chess Grand Masters Coming to Zambia

Four International Chess Grand Masters will take part in the 2019 Zambia Open International Chess Championship slated for June 28th at the Olympic Youth Development Center -OYDC- in Lusaka.Zambia Chess Federation -ZCF- President Mukubulo Chilufya says the annual tournament has attracted over Two hundred and 50 local participants with 50 international players expected to compete.Chilufya says ten countries which include the host Zambia, South Africa, Russia, India, Zimbabwe and Malawi among others will battle for top prizes in five categories.He told ZNBC News that hosting the annual prestigious tournament goes to show the rapid growth of Chess in the country.Chilufya also disclosed that the Federation has mounted up a 3 hundred and 50-thousand-kwacha budget towards the championship.He says so far 1 hundred and 50 thousand kwacha has been raised with a deficit of 2 hundred thousand kwacha needed before Thursday in a bid to successfully host the five day event.Meanwhile, Stanely Chumfwa who is the 2017 and 2018 Champion is expected to defend his title in the Elite section that will comprise an excess of 40 chess players.
