35,000  EMERGENCY HEALTH WORKERS PAID

By Mary Kachepa:

Government has started paying 35,000 Emergency Health Workers under the Zambia Emergency Health Services Delivery Project.

Public Service Management Division -PSMD- payroll Management and Establishment Control Support Services Department Director SECHWAYO NZIMA disclosed this in an interview with ZNBC News in Lusaka today,

Mr. NZIMA said this follows the one hundred and $50m agreement signed by government and the World Bank on January 17, 2022 to facilitate payment of salaries to emergency health workers.

Mr. NZIMA said the two year project started in May 2022 and salaries for classified health workers will be paid from the Zambia Emergency salaries account that has been created.

He said in view of the foregoing, third party institutions such as Banks, Micro finance institutions, higher purchase institutions, Unions or other institutions that have agreements with civil servants will receive two payments from government.

Mr NZIMA said the first payment will be for non emergency health workers which will be slightly less than what they will be expecting and the second payment will be for emergency health workers to cover the balance.

He said the third party institutions should not worry when they receive less payments because they will be receiving two payments.
