3 nabbed for theft of 30 tonnes of Copper

Police in Luanshya have arrested and detained three people for allegedly stealing about 30 tonnes of Copper cathodes.

Copperbelt Police Commissioner PEACEWELL MWEEMBA says preliminary findings indicate that the Copper Cathodes may have been stolen while in transit from the Democratic Republic of Congo to unknown destination.

Mr. MWEEMBA named the suspects as LACKSON MUDENDA, GODSON KAIKA and RICHARD MUSHILI all of Kitwe district .

He says officers swung into action in Baluba area after receiving information that a Tipper truck Registration number BAV 316 and a Fuso truck Registration number ACJ 6336 were laden with Copper Cathode plates at a garage along Ndola- Kitwe Dual Carriageway in Luanshya.

Mr. MWEEMBA says when officers reached the scene of crime, they found the said trucks loaded with Copper Cathodes and some of the Copper Cathode plates were on the ground.

This is according to a statement issued by Police and made available to ZNBC in Kitwe.

Police have also arrested three people in Luanshya for being in possession of property reasonably suspected to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained .

Mr. MWEEMBA  said whilst doing patrols the officers intercepted a light Canter truck Registration number ACJ 7145 that was laden with 3 by 1,000 liters vessels containing suspected Diesel and Petrol.

He said the suspects were arrested after they failed to give a satisfactory answer and claimed that the owners of the products were in the other vehicle that was following behind.
