27 Kansanshi mine workers dismissed for illegal protest

Lupindula Mwenya-Twenty seven of the two hundred and seventy five employees that were suspended by Kansanshi Mining PLC for engaging in a sit in protest have been dismissed.

This comes a week after two hundred and seventy five unionized employees at Kansanshi Mining Plc were suspended for conducting an illegal sit in protest over the Introduction of a Private pension scheme.

Mine Workers Union of Zambia Secretary General GOERGE MUMBA says two hundred and nine workers have been issued with final warnings by management and have since resumed work.

Speaking in a telephone interview with ZNBC News in Solwezi, Mr. MUMBA says the Union has continued to engage management on the possibility of reinstating the twenty seven fired workers.

He said mine is within its right to exercise punishment on the twenty seven suspended workers but firing them is harsh.

Mr. MUMBA has however urged members of his Union to follow the right channels when aggrieved adding that the Union will continue representing the needs of its members.
