Lusaka, Zambia24 – (July 31, 2024) – The National Council of Student Unions (NACOSU) has vehemently denied any involvement in the alleged plans for a student march to Parliament scheduled for tomorrow.

Brain Chinza, the Secretary General of NACOSU, has issued a statement advising all students and colleagues from institutions of higher learning to stay away from any such activities.

Chinza expressed concern over false stories circulating on social media, suggesting that students from higher learning institutions will be marching to Parliament.

“We have noted with concern false stories making rounds on social media stating that students from higher learning institutions will be marching to Parliament tomorrow for reasons being peddled by the authors and propagandists of such narratives,” he stated.

He clarified that neither NACOSU nor its Chairperson, Michelo Chizombe, is involved in any plans for the alleged march.

“Neither NACOSU nor Michelo Chizombe are involved in the alleged falsehoods of an alleged march past tomorrow at Parliament. Comrades and all colleagues from institutions of higher learning are advised to stay away,” Chinza reiterated.

Chinza further emphasized that no such program is scheduled for tomorrow and condemned the malicious attempts to tarnish the reputation of Chairperson Chizombe.

“We wish to categorically state that no such program is set for tomorrow. Secondly, we find it malicious and damaging to bring into disrepute the name of our Chairperson, Comrade Michelo Chizombe, in such false acts as he is nowhere near such and is currently on leave attending to family matters,” he added.

He urged the media and the public to remain vigilant against such false narratives and to avoid being swayed by individuals seeking relevance through the dissemination of misleading information.
