Lungu’s Statement Irresponsible-Nevers Mumba
Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) President, NEVER MUMBA has described assertions by former President EDGAR LUNGU that Zambians may rise against the current administration as irresponsible.
And, Dr MUMBA says Zambians are concerned with the dignity of the Office of the former President.
Speaking on his facebook page, Dr MUMBA said the former president must come with clean hands when accusing the UPND Government of police brutality.
He said this is because Mr. LUNGU led one of the regimes that brutalised  and tear gassed people countless times.
The Centre for Policy Dialogue has condemned former president EDGAR LUNGU for suggesting that people may rise against the current administration.
CPD Executive Director CAROLINE KATOTOBWE says the comment has the potential to divide the country and cause anarchy.
In an interview with ZNBC News, Ms KATOTOBWE said such conduct shows the level of desperation by some politicians, who want to put themselves first before the interests of the citizens.
She said the country has adopted sober politics and not that of division and self serving.
Meanwhile Mr LUNGU may face possible prosecution following his alarming statements against President HICHILEMA losing power before 2026.
Police say they are carefully scrutinizing the statement by the Former Head of State and that appropriate legal action may be taken.
Police Spokesperson, RAE HAMOONGA says the implications of such a statement are being assessed.
And reacting to a complaint by Mr. LUNGU against police action to disperse PF faction cadres at Kabwata police station Mr. HAMOONGA said Police will NOT tolerate misconduct at any Police Station which is a protected place by law.
He said that a police station is not a playground for disorderly conduct, and individuals engaging in illegal activities within its confines are liable to be arrested.
Police yesterday fired teargas to disperse PF cadres who had gathered at Kabwata police station where faction Secretary General RAPHAEL NAKCINDA was detained before being released on police bond.
