Govt starts mapping of minerals

By Ruth Chayinda

The Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development has started a comprehensive exploration and mapping of the country’s minerals.

Acting Mines and Minerals Development Minister CHIPOKA MULENGA says the exploration and mapping of minerals will be done countrywide so that Government can determine mineral deposits.

And Mr. MULENGA has disclosed that Government has completed its geological investigations at the Kanyelele Gold Mine area in Mpika district which was conducted to establish the extent of mineralization.

He says a detailed report on the same is being finalised.

Mr. MULENGA said this in a ministerial statement in the National Assembly.

This was in response to a question raised by Mpika Member of Parliament FRANCIS KAPYANGA who wanted to find out what Government is doing to stop illegal mining activities at Kanyelele mine.
