Lusaka records cholera case

One person has died of suspected cholera in Lusaka’s Kanyama Township while a 21-year-old woman who was confirmed to have the disease has been successfully treated.

Health Minister SYLVIA MASEBO has confirmed the cholera outbreak which was diagnosed on Sunday, October 15, 2023.

Currently, Lusaka district has NO active cholera case following the successful treatment of the KANYAMA patient.

Speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka today, Ms. MASEBO also disclosed that the ministry of health has managed to contain the cholera outbreaks in Eastern, Northern and Luapula provinces since January this year.

The minister has urged the public to prevent the cholera outbreak from escalating.

Ms. MASEBO has further advised the ministry of local government to ensure markets and bus stations are kept clean to prevent cases of cholera.

Meanwhile Ministry of Health Acting Permanent Secretary, JOHN KACHIMBA said the Ministry of Water Development and Sanitation has been engaged to ensure sufficient clean and safe water is provided to communities without supply.

And Ministry of Health Director Clinical Care KENNEDY LISHIMPI said the country has enough supplies for rapid diagnostic tests and will be taken to all risky areas.
