ZESCO TO SELL POWER NAMIBIA

By Sharon Kunda-

ZESCO Limited has signed a power supply agreement with NAMPOWER of Namibia for the supply of 80 megawatts to that Company.

ZESCO Limited Managing Director VICTOR MAPANI says NAMPOWER has demonstrated to be one of the stable and reliable customers.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Mr. MAPANI said the collaboration demonstrates continued cooperation and trust between the two utilities as well as between Zambia and Namibia.

He noted that being a member of the Southern African Power Pool -SAPP- creates a great opportunity for ZESCO to play a major role in trade in the regional power blocks.

Mr. MAPANI said ZESCO has embarked on an ambitious programme to position itself as a major power trading utility in the sub-region and beyond through expansion and upgrading of transmission lines countrywide.

And NamPower Managing Director KAHENGE HAULOFU said the first power supply agreement with ZESCO Limited was for 1 hundred megawatts in 2020 and that this demonstrates the relationship that exists between the two utility companies over the years.

Mr. HAULOFU said such collaboration will make a meaningful contribution to the economy of NAMIBIA and that it will also translate into a win-win situation for ZESCO Limited and NamPower.
