2022 NEGOTIATIONS FOR IMPROVED SALARIES AT KCM SUSPENDED

By Tinkerbel Mwila

Konkola Copper Mines –KCM- management and mines unions led by the Mine Workers Union of Zambia –MUZ- have agreed to suspend the 2022 negotiations for improved salaries and resolved to resume after 3 months.

Confirming the development, MUZ General Secretary George Mumba says the suspension of the 2022 collective bargaining at KCM for 3 months comes after the mining firm disclosed that it has no capacity to increase salaries among other improved conditions of service for its workforce.

Mr. Mumba says the unions have observed that production at KCM has tremendously dwindled with management failing to meet targets.

He has since appealed to workers at KCM to remain calm as they wait for the 3 months to resume negotiations.
