By Mary Kachepa

Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister STANELY KAKUBO says the World Food Programme -WFP- is a crucial partner in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals -SDGs.

Mr. KAKUBO says the WFP is not only crucial in the attainment of SDGs through reduced hunger, supporting education and gender equality but also improved incomes value and industrialization.

He has highlighted the need for Government and the United Nations family to work together to improve the food security situation in Zambia.

Mr. KAKUBO says about half of the population in the country cannot attain the daily calorie intake, and over one-third of the children are stunted.

He was speaking when WFP Representative and Country Director CISSY BYENKYA presented her credentials to him at his office in Lusaka today.

Meanwhile Ms BYENKYA Congratulated Zambia for peaceful elections and continuing to be the beacon of peace on the continent.

She said the WFP will always be supportive in cases of droughts, floods and the recent Covid 19 pandemic.
