UPND REGRETS BELEMU DEFECTION

The United Party for National Development -UPND- has regretted the defection of Mbabala Member of Parliament, Ephraim Belemu to the PF.

UPND Spokesperson, Cornelius Mweetwa says he personally takes the blame as a senior member of the UPND National Management Committee for not acting promptly to stop Mr. Belemu from leaving the party.

Mr. Mweetwa has told a press briefing in Choma today that Mr. Belemu who was one of the hardworking MPs faced a hostile environment orchestrated by some aspiring candidates within the constituency.

He said the aspiring candidates had employed aggressive tactics that made it difficult for Mr. Belemu to pull through the ongoing adoption process.

Mr. Mweetwa admitted that some of the aspiring candidates unleashed what he described as an aggressive invasion which severely disadvantaged Mr. Belemu .

Mr. Belemu served as MP for Mbabala Constituency for 10 years under UPND.

He resigned yesterday citing betrayal from the opposition party.

His resignation came after the former UPND Spokesperson, Charles Kakoma joined the ruling PF.
