GOVT NODS THE CLERGY
By Chansa Kunda:Government has commended the clergy for playing a key role in the transformation of inmates in the country.Religious Affairs Minister of Godfridah Sumaili says it is gratifying that the clergy have taken a leading role in ensuring inmates undergo rehabilitation before they are reintegrated into society.Reverend Sumaili was speaking during the official handover of a Chapel at Mwembeshi open-air correctional Center.She said the construction of the chapel in Mwembeshi is important as it will enhance the relations between the people and God.The minister urged the Zambia Correctional service to consider constructing chapels in all facilities across the country.And Zambia Correctional service Commissioner General Chileshe Chisela said there is need to transform the open-air prison facilities into Correctional centers.Dr. Chisela further thanked the Church for helping the service to look after the inmates.Speaking at the same function Chilanga Member of Parliament Maria Langa called for concerted efforts in improving the welfare of prisoners.Meanwhile Commissioner in Charge of Correctional and extension services Tobius Mwanza said the construction of the chapel is a great milestone.
