TRADERS ACROSS CHIRUNDU AT STAND STILL

By Penlope Kapambwe:Movement by cross border traders and travelers has come to a near standstill at the Chirundu border post.This follows the decision by neighbouring countries, like Zimbabwe, to go on lockdown and close borders as a measure to fight covid-19.A Check by ZNBC news found no passenger buses while private vehicles were few.But Chirundu District Health Director Mwila Lembalemba says reduced activity at the border will Not affect the health personnel’s thorough screening process of truck drivers who enjoy the liberty to drive through.Dr Lembalemba says over 143 thousand truck drivers have been screened at the border since December last year.He says the inflow of trucks continues to be on a high side with an average of 300 drivers screened in a day.
