2019 will not be business as usual, warns Sichembe

Accountant General Dick Sichembe has threatened to take disciplinary action against any accountant in public service that misappropriates public funds this year.

Dr. Sichembe says he will not hesitate to evoke disciplinary provisions of the Public Financial Management ACT if any of the public service accountants fail to align themselves to the legislation.

In a statement to QTV News Dr. Sichembe has warned that the year 2019 will be business as usual.

Dr. Sichembe says as, the Accountant General, he will take every opportunity to ensure that there is prudent utilization of public resources this year.

He states that this is in order that public service accountants effectively contribute to the performance improvement of the public service through timely attainment of resource backed performance targets.

The Accountant General says this what will in turn facilitate economic stabilization, growth, and effective financial management.

He has requested all public service accountants to make sure that 2019 becomes a year driven by discipline, honesty, hard work, integrity and accountability in the performance of their duties.
