Former Southampton striker Emmanuel Mayuka made his Green Buffaloes debut after months of being without a Club. Mayuka last played football for Israeli Premier League side Hapoel Raanana after his Zamalek contract was terminated by mutual consent in 2017.

The 2012 AFCON top scorer struggled to find a club after leaving Hapoel Raanana but early in March the Army sponsored side Green Buffaloes contacted Mayuka to start training with the team with the view of signing him.

Mayuka was dubbed as a golden boy of Zambian football after he bursted on the scene in 2012, the 28 year old won the golden boot after netting 3 goals, that earned him a move to English club Southampton from Switzerland side Young boys. The pressure and demand to play at the highest level was too much for a 21 year old by then.

In 2013 Southampton loaned him to Sochaux in France but he was recalled by Southampton and was given a second chance to impress but failed to live up to eexpectations. Sot’on offloaded him to a French club Metz.

In 2016 he trekked to Northern Africa where he joined Egyptian Premier League giants Zamalek Sportings Club. He played 22 games for The Royal Club and managed to score 5 goals. In 2017, he was released by Zamalek shortly after the club failed to go past the group stage of the CAF Champions League.

He joined Israeli Premier League club Hapoel Ra’anana before he was unattached but everyone is asking if that is a right move, at 28 year Mayuka is still young enough to be playing football and the move to Green Buffaloes will help him rediscover his best form which saw him playing in the Premier League, he only need to work hard, looking at how much GBFC needed a striker, Mayuka will be the main man at the club.
