2 HEALTH PROGRAMS AT CBU WITHDRAWN

The Health Professions Council of Zambia -HPCZ- has withdrawn two health related programmes at the Copperbelt University Michael Chilufya Sata School of Medicine in Ndola for failure to comply with standards.
HPCZ Registrar and Chief Executive Officer Aarron Mujajati says the withdrawn programmes are Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery and Bachelor of Dental surgery.

Dr. Mujajati cited gross over-enrolment of students, inadequate number of lecturers, engagement of unregistered and unlicensed lectures that are health practitioners and failure to index students as some of the reasons that have led to the withdraw of the two programmes.
He said CBU currently has no capacity to offer the programmes hence the decision to withdraw the certificate of approval and subsequent closure of the programmes.
Dr. Mujajati reiterated that HPCZ will not tolerate Institutions whether public or private that compromise health standards because its mandate is to protect the public.
The HPCZ Registrar has since advised the Copperbelt University -CBU- that the two programmes withdrawn will only be reinstated after all recommendations have been addressed and after the University has submitted a fresh application to the Council for a reassessment.
Dr. Mujajati disclosed this at a media briefing in Lusaka.
