17 suspects escape from Police cell in Mansa
SEVENTEEN (17) suspects from Mansa Central police station have escaped from lawful custody after pushing the two officers on duty who were trying to detain a new suspect who had just been brought.And in an effort to stop the suspects from escaping officers shot dead one suspect and wounded two others who managed to escape.The incident happened yesterday at 00:20 hours when Sergeant Laston Siagwaka and Constable Daniel Ngwile opened the cells door to detain a male suspect Busiku Nalumino who was brought from Saint Clement Secondary School for the offence of Conduct Likely to Cause the breach of peace.Deputy Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga confirmed this in a statement and said upon opening the cell door to detain the new suspect, the suspects who were in custody pushed the door and overpowered the officers and escaped.Hamoonga identified those who escaped as Prince Chinyata who is facing charges of Aggravated Robbery and Rape, Ephraim Lombe, Charles Mwila, Robert Chansa, Kabaso Mamama, Martin Mwana and Ottis Musobda all facing the offence of Robbery. Others are Joseph Chala, Sydney Musongole, Peter Mambwe and Lewis Mwewa all facing the offence of theft; and Peter Sinyangwe and James Yumba all facing the offense of trafficking in psychotropic substances.Hamoonga said named others as Oliver Mulenga and Jackson Katuba both facing Breakings cases; Emmanuel Chikota facing the offense of Assault OABH and Isaac Nkazi facing a charge of Conduct Likely to Cause the Breach of Peace.He said in an effort to stop the suspects from escaping officers gunned down one suspect and wounded two others who managed to escape.Hamoonga said later at 01:30hrs another suspect Isaac Nkazi who had escaped was brought back to the Police Station by his father Sydney Nkazi.This now brings the remaining number of suspects on the run to fifteen (15).He has appealed to the general public who may have any information that may lead to the arrest of any of the named suspects to report to the nearest police station as soon as it is possible.
