151,200 DOSES OF J AND J ARRIVE

By Etambuyu Katota- One Hundred and fifty-one thousand two hundred(151,200) doses of the Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccine have arrived in the country from the United States of America.

Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Technical Services KENNEDY MALAMA says the US has been a key ally in the strengthening of health systems in the country.

Dr. MALAMA says COVID-19 has been disruptive to various sectors of the economy and government is putting up a good fight as the reduction in the positivity rate is now being observed.

He has also appealed to Zambians to get vaccinated.

Dr. MALAMA says government will continue to mobilise for more vaccines and next week AstraZeneca vaccines are also expected in the country.

He said this when he received the vaccines at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka today.

And USAID Country Director SHERYL STUMBRAS said in addition to the vaccines provided, the American government has also provided funds to Zambia to assist in the fight against COVID-19.

She also encouraged women and mothers to ensure they get vaccinated.

Meanwhile, UN Resident Coordinator COUMBA MAR GADIO in a speech read for her by UNICEF Country Representative NOALA SKINNER, said the additional Johnson and Johnson vaccines from the US to Zambia are a demonstration of solidarity.
