Health Minister SYLVIA MASEBO has advised Zambians not to drop the guard as the country continues winning the fight against Tuberculosis -TB.

Ms. MASEBO says the number of deaths and cases of TB have been drastically reducing, adding that this should not result in people neglecting their health because the situation can change unexpectedly.

She says Government has placed premium on the health of learners even after providing free education, and advised them not to stigmatize TB patients or those that have recovered from the disease.

Ms. MASEBO said this is a speech read for her by Permanent Secretary Technical Services KENNEDY LISHIMPI during the TB national inter-schools singing competition in Lusaka.

Meanwhile, Education Services Permanent Secretary JOEL KAMOKO said government is ensuring that learners are kept safe from all diseases through such awareness programs.

And Arts Permanent Secretary FUMBA CHAMA challenged health authorities to engage artists as stakeholders in raising awareness unlike seeing them as entertainers only.

Center for Infectious Diseases Research in Zambia CIDRZ Director TB Program MONDE MUYOYETA said about 15,000 Zambians die of TB from the 60,000 cases that are reported annually.
