Government through the Road Development Agency -RDA- is earmarked to construct 1 hundred and 31 bridges countrywide under the Acrow Bridge project.

And works on the initial TEN Bridges to be constructed in Eastern Province have started.

RDA Chief Executive Officer George Manyele says Eastern Province alone has been allocated 20 bridges.

Inspecting works on one of the bridges under the project in Chipata, Mr. Manyele said the works on all the TEN Bridges are expected to be completed in November this year.

Mr. Manyele said the RDA has also signed several contracts with contractors in other Provinces to conduct similar works.

He said the project targets at constructing durable crossing points which in the recent past have been washed away by heavy rains.

Mr. Manyele said the components for all the 1 hundred and 31 Bridges prefabricated in the United States of America are already in the country.

And Project Assistant Resident Engineer Lukona Mwewa says works on Lunkwankwa Bridge, one of the TEN under construction, are at 75 percent.

Mr. Mwewa says the overall works under the project in the Province are at 10 percent.
