11 UPND members Arrested for Offensive Weapons

Eleven UPND members in Northern Province have been arrested and charged with possession of offensive weapons.This happened during the filing in of nominations for the Mayembe Ward by-election in Shiwang’andu District – Muchinga Province.Muchinga Province Police Commissioner Joel Njase says the UPND cadres were found with a taser gun, catapults, pangas and a knife hidden in a Toyota Hilux registration number ALZ 2719.Mr. Njase says the vehicle is owned by the UPND Secretariat and the driver was UPND Northern Province Chairperson Nathan Ilunga.He has named the suspects as Mr. Ilunga, Provincial Vice Chairperson Patrick Chanda, Provincial Secretary Lazarous Chongo, Provincial Youth Chairperson Justin Mumbi and Provincial Youth Coordinator John Simfukwe among others.And Police have arrested Five Kasama based UPND cadres and charged them with conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace and threatening violence.Mr. Njase says the five cadres caused confusion during the nominations for the Mayembe Ward by-election in Shiwang’andu District yesterday.He has named the five UPND cadres as Alex Sakala, Anthony Kangwa, Chishimba Mpundu, Andrew Saulo and another one only identified as Mwansa all of Kasama.The suspects are in Police custody.
