100 Million Kg Of Soya Seed Needed To Increase Biofuel Production

By Tinkerbel Mwila

The Copper-belt Energy Corporation-CEC- says there is a deficit of over 100 million kilograms of soya seed to ensure increased production of the required bio-fuel product.

In interview with Phoenix Business News, CEC Engineer for Bio fuel Production Everton Kabwita says for CEC to produce the 5 mandatory brand of bio-fuel to meet the demand, the firm needs over 328 million kg of soya seed but the current supply only stands slightly at 150 million.

Eng. Kabwita has since encouraged farmers across the country to take advantage of the deficit by growing more soya seed to supply the firm which will ultimately satisfy the market.

He has also appealed to government through the Energy Regulation Board-ERB- to consider provision of incentives to the bio-fuel sector especially for importation of machinery for enhanced production.
