Justice Minister Given Lubinda says his Ministry is in the process of formulating a law criminalizing torture in line with the Republican Constitution.
Mr Lubinda says his Ministry is also reviewing the Penal Code and the Criminal Procedure Code.
Speaking when he officiated at the Human Rights Commission Universal Periodic Review Information Dissemination workshop, Mr Lubinda assured the nation that government means every word in accepting the 183 recommendations proposed at the third human rights Universal Periodic Review (UPR).
He says by accepting the 183 of the 202 recommendations that were made, government has demonstrated its commitment and willingness to promote human rights in Zambia.
Mr. Lubinda has further disclosed that his Ministry is working on the Public Order Act as well as reviewing the Prisons Act to transform it into a Correctional Act.
Speaking earlier, Human Rights Commission Deputy Chairperson, Kondwa Chibiya said the commission is committed to working with government to ensure the Universal Periodic Review is implemented.
Ms. Chibiya says the commission is also optimistic that government will open up and facilitate the possibility of expanding and reforming the Bill of Rights.
