Mapalo killer sentenced by Livingstone High Court to 45 years

MapaloThe Livingstone High Court has sentenced a 23 year old man of Kanchele village in Chief Sipatunyana’s area in Kalomo district to 45 years imprisonment for manslaughter.

High Court Judge Mwila Chitabo convicted Talent Nchimunya in connection with the murder of 26-year old Mapalo Chanda the brother of PF Media Director Sunday Chanda.

Munkombwe murdered Mapalo on 2nd September, 2017 at about 04:00 hours at Kanchele Village in Kalomo.

The deceased sustained multiple cuts on the head and hands which led to his death, as he followed up money owed to him by the convict whom he had engaged to buy Soya Beans on his behalf, but disappeared with the money.

At the time of his murder, Mapalo was working as an Auditor with the Office of the Auditor General and had travelled to Kalomo to demand for his money from Munkombwe who turned violent and attacked him with a shear from an ox-plough.

At one point Munkombwe had escaped from police custody as he was being transported to court for an appearance before he was rearrested.

Meanwhile the family of the late Mapalo say they will appeal against the 45 year sentenced handed to Munkombwe by the court.

Family spokesperson Sunday Chanda says the family feels the punishment is not stiff, adding that they do not understand why the charge was reduced from murder to manslaughter.
