Govt Amends S.I NO.54 Of 1992 That Strengthen Laws Against Street Vending

The Ministry of Local Government and Housing has amended Statutory Instrument number 54 of 1992 that strengthens laws against street vending and public nuisances.

Ministry Permanent Secretary Amos Malupenga told journalists in Lusaka that the new act comes with 33 more new offences which include among them conducting street business or selling ready meals in a van or any other places that are not licensed, selling of fruits and vegetables from the ground, open vans or wheelbarrows and having no litter bin in registered public transport.

Mr. Malupenga further says those found wanting will be fined a penalty fee of k5, 000 adding that the ministry is working hand in hand with law enforcement agencies such as the police and the road transport and safety agency to ensure these laws are followed.
