Public broadcaster ZNBC’s management has suspended one of its Copperbelt-based reporters, Misheck Moyo on allegations of participating in active politics contrary to laid down procedures and ethics.
But a source has told this reporter that Moyo’s suspension was the work of the PF leadership in the province who were not comfortable with his popularity in the district.
Moyo has been suspended on allegations that he is affiliated to the newly-formed National Democratic Congress (NDC) as Mufulira district chairperson.
Former Information Minister Chishimba Kambwili and his NDC held a jam-packed meeting at Hindu hall in Mufulira.
The party in its infancy is however sending strong signals, that as a break away of the ruling Patriotic Front (PF), it will divide PF stronghold in half.
But a source from the province told this reporter that Copperbelt PF Chairperson Stephen Kainga was at the centre of the suspension because their choice for mayor in Mufulira seems to have back fired as people are not happy with his performance.
“If you remember Mr Moyo was one of the people who applied last year to stand on the ticket for the Mayoral election but was not picked. The candidate they picked does not know anything and people have been encouraging Mr Moyo that his time will come. That has unsettled the PF leadership including the PF Copperbelt Provincial Chairman Staphen Kainga who have ganged up to have him transferred to Livingstone but Mr Moyo has challenged the transfer. So it is because of challenging the transfer that’s why the issue of suspension comes in,” the source said.
Moyo applied to stand as a candidate for the PF at Mayoral level in 2016 but was not picked.
