Kafue Hospital Upgraded

 

Kafue District Hospital has  been upgraded into both a General Hospital status and Nursing School.

Gracing the occasion under the theme “Exemplary Nursing Education and Practice” was Health Minister Chitalu Chilufya .

The Health Minister who ealier paid a courtesy call on  Kafue District Commissioner, Joseph Kamana at his office said the commissioning of Kafue Hospital into a General Hospital and an E-learning Nursing School was a happy moment for the people of Kafue District.

“Today epitomizes the partnership that the community and government shares. This is a success story seeing that the hospital has been at the same level for decades. Therefore, government has set aside K5 million for the upgrade and refurbishment of the hospital, and we have tenders rolled out and in a weeks time you will see a contractor move on site to start the refurbishment works,” he said.

 

He said the upgrading of Kafue Hospital will result in more creation of employment opportunities for youths through attainment of education.

“It’s in this vein that all the 170 students who applied for nursing will receive their acceptance letters today which is an historic moment,” Dr Chitalu said.

 

Speaking at same event, Child Fund International Acting Country Director, Mrs Doras Chirwa said  her organization is committed to help improve the well-being of children, youths and their families and make health education a reality for vulnerable children.

“We have, as our quest to help make health education a reality for the vulnerable. Therefore, we have donated a total of 55 desktop computers to the Kafue General hospital valued at K330, 000, loaded with nursing materials  to facilitate e-learning in the nursing field. We have also donated 30 Tablets to 30 nursing students both valued at K125, 000,” she said.

Mrs Chirwa said this was in line with Child Fund’s sustainability support towards the Zambian government in order for it to foster change through the introduction of the E-learning programme.
