WE lost the Ipongwe ward by-election because some people went into the campaign with a negative attitude, says Patriotic Front member of the central committee John Chisanga.
Commenting on the ruling PF’s failure to win the Ipongwe ward by-election in Keembe constituency, which was scooped by the opposition UPND, Chisanga stated that most people in the PF campaign team did not conduct their campaigns with a positive mind as they did not believe that they could win an election in an area perceived to be a UPND stronghold.
“The challenge we had in the just ended Ipongwe ward by-election is that most people that were in different PF campaign camps did not have a positive mind to say they can win an election in an area that is believed or perceived to be a stronghold of the UPND,” explained Chisanga, who is former Bwacha member of parliament and deputy community development minister in Frederick Chiluba’s government. “Of course we performed well in some polling centres, like where I was campaigning with Brian Nkolola [PF Kapiri Mposhi district information and publicity secretary]. This is because we went and explained the development agenda that the PF government has for the people of Zambia. So for me, we lost the Ipongwe ward by-election because some people went into the campaign with a negative attitude.”
He further prodded PF members to have a positive mindset each time they were going in an election, stressing that what was important was a tangible campaign strategy.
“For me, each time we go in a campaign, it is to have a tangible campaign strategy. You need to have a realistic campaign strategy that the electorate can easily buy into. So I can only appeal to my fellow PF members to develop a positive mindset each time they go in an election campaign,” added Chisanga.
