William Banda and 9 UPND members given bail

Lusaka Magistrate Faides Hamaundu has granted William Banda and nine others K5,000 bail each in their own recognizance after they pleaded not guilty to a charge of obstructing police officers.

It is alleged that Banda, the UPND presidential advisor, Brian Mwiinga, who is UPND president Hakainde Hichilema’s assistant press aide, Lusaka Province UPND youth chairman Gilbert Liswaniso, John Kalimunwa, David Mwanza, Abraham Zulu Rashid Masumba, Dean Mwaanga, John Lungu and Micheal Tembo on April 10 jointly and whilst acting together willfully obstructed police officers during the execution of their duties. Banda and others all pleaded not guilty

Magistrate Hamaundu then granted them K5,000 bail in their own recognizance each with two working sureties and set May 3 for mention while trial would commence on May 22.

By press time, UPND member Zevyanji Sinkala confirmed that all the bail conditions had been met but that the accused would be released tomorrow as paper work was still being done.
