Opposition UPND president Hakainde Hichilema is still holed up in his New Kasama residence in Lusaka after police raided his home late last night.
Heavily armed Police officers are still manning the main gate leading to Mr. Hichilema’s house.
Late last night State Police switched off power at the house at Hichilema’s house, blocked the main roads and the broke down the gates to the house to gain access to the house before firing teargas into the house, choking the occupants who allegedly included Hichilema’s wife and children.
Police last night also arrested and later released Alexander Musokotwane of Muvi TV and Kalani Muchima of Prime TV. The two journalists were covering the ongoing operation at Hichilema’s house in New Kasama.
The Zambia Police Service is yet to issue a statement on the operation.
