President Edgar Lungu has pardoned 336 convicts in the spirit of Independence celebrations.
The Head of State said the move was meant to help decongest prisons as Zambia mark 52 years after Independence.
Among the pardoned are 18 mentally ill prisoners who have benefitted from the constitutionally instigated prerogative of mercy.
This year’s Independence Day is being celebrated under the theme, “Consolidating Independence and Unity for a Smart Zambia”.
