Barely a week after a mine captain died at KCM’s Konkola Deep Mining Project in Chililabombwe, another miner has died at KCM’s underground mine in Chililabombwe
According to local media, KCM sources revealed that preliminary investigations indicated that Paul Lusheto of 10th Street in Nchanga South in Chingola died after the pressure valve that pumps water from underground on shaft number one came off its socket and hit him.
“As you know, there is too much water in Chililabombwe underground and we operate by pumping out millions of litres of water. So Paul was checking on the valve because there was too much pressure. We don’t know exactly what happened. He sustained serious injuries when it came off and he died later. The pressure of water overpowered him,” a source said.
Coperbelt police commissioner Charity Katanga confirmed the accident that happened around 10:00 saying investigations were underway.
“The deceased Paul Lusheto is from Nchanga South in Chingola,” said Katanga.
