The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested ZNFU president Evelyn Nguleka and executive director Ndambo Ndambo.
And Nguleka has resigned from her position and has also stepped down as World Farmers Organisation president.
Nguleka and Ndambo’s arrest comes in the wake of allegations that the institution’s executive embezzled more than K34 million donor funds.
The ZNFU board has disputed the audit reports that have found the institution, particularly executive director Ndambo Ndambo, guilty of misappropriating funds; and Nguleka’s resignation today raises new questions concerning latest findings into fraud allegations at the farmers body.
The ZNFU public relation office has confirmed that the two were arrested, but could not state the charges leveled against them.
The two have since been released on police bond.
Recently, the ZNFU board denounced the donors’ demand for a refund and challenged them to stop funding the institution if they were unsatisfied with accountability levels at the institution.
