The sixteenth meeting of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Committee on Peace and Security has officially opened in Lusaka today.
The meeting which will run from the 9th to the 19th of July is being held under the theme: “COMESA Towards Digital Economic Integration”.
Speaking during the official opening of the meeting, outgoing COMESA Secretary General, Sindiso Ngwenya reminded delegates of the main agenda which is reviewing the committee’s status report.
Mr. Sindiso has urged delegates to look at the meeting as a COMESA family meeting that is intended to improve the region for greater prosperity.
He states that as COMESA deepens its integration, it should also expect events of one Country to affect the neighbours and ultimately the region.
Mr. Sindiso says delegates at the meeting should therefore ensure that the final reports they will be considering are objective, factual and comprehensive.
He has also observed the need for delegates to come to an understanding that the meeting they are attending is a tool to make the region a favorable destination for investment.
