STOP Zambia calls for implementation of ageing policy

Support to Older People (STOP) Zambia has observed the need to strategically implement the national ageing policy in order to uplift the plight of senior citizens in the country.

STOP Zambia Executive Director, Derrick Banda notes that while the policy itself is good, it’s the implementation by those in authority that is not encouraging.

Mr. Banda says according to the policy, elderly citizens are supposed to be provided with descent housing units with user friendly facilities.

Mr. Banda adds that elderly people are also supposed to have access to health services within a radius of 5 kilometers so that they are not made to travel long distances to access health services.

Mr. Banda speaking to QTV’s Albert Mpezeni at the ongoing five day Civil Society Organizations and Media training on Managing Social Protection Floors in Africa organized by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and Civil Society for Poverty Reduction in Chisamba District.
