EL to take golf to schools

REPUBLICAN President Edgar Lungu says he will work with the Zambia Golf Union (ZGU) to take golf to schools to help improve junior golf in the country.
President Lungu has also been appointed patron of the ZGU and he has accepted the mantle.
The President said at Lusaka Golf Club were he graced the Zanaco Masters prize presentation ceremony that he will work with ZGU to take golf to schools.
“We are going to take golf to schools and we shall work with ZGU,” said Lungu.
The president who witnessed the epic four round play-offs said he enjoyed himself and congratulated the winner.
“I enjoyed myself.Did you? It was a spectacular way of finishing and I will encourage the sponsors to continue. I think you are doing the right thing. We appreciate them,” Lungu said.
He said golf was a good sport that helps in good health and fitness.
“Those that are still sitting on the fence. Let them come on board and join us. Sports is about good health and fitness,” he said.
And Zanaco Managing Director Henk Mulder thanked everyone involved in organising the tournament.
Mulder said Zanaco pledged to sponsor the tournament for two years and beyond.
“We are a universal bank for all Zambians. We already have a football team and why not golf for a next. We are not only here for this year but we are establishing for many years to come,” said Mulder.
And LOC chairman Roy Penny said it was an honour to have the President grace the occasion and thanked the sponsors for making the tournament a success.
