About Three hundred opposition Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) members have defected to the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) in Namwala District.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, former FDD District Chairperson Blathwete Sichipupula says members have decided to join the PF in order to foster development.
Sichipupula says most people have waited for development for so long and have since realized it will only be attained in the area through joining the ruling party.
And receiving the defectors, PF Southern province Chairperson Evans Lawrence expressed happiness and assured the new members that they were welcome to the ruling party.
He urged the old members to embrace the new ‘recrutees’ stressing that they have not joined to take up positions but to strengthen the party.
Meanwhile, Member of the Central Committee (MCC) Kebby Mbewe has assured the defectors that it is government’s desire to see Namwala develop.
Mbewe has called on people in Namwala to embrace the current leadership of the country as they are willing and ready to work for the people.
He has advised that people should ensure they put people in leadership which can bring development at all costs.
